As the nights draw in and life gets busier, it can be easy to let exercise slip down your to-do list and lose motivation. But alongside the foodie tips Nicola has shared for the Christmas period, staying active is one of the best ways to boost energy, reduce stress, and keep the holiday spirit alive! Here are a few tips to help you stay on track:
1. Set small, achievable goals

Focus on consistency over perfection to keep up motivation. A short workout is better than none! Maybe you don’t have time to get to your usual class or the gym, and even a 10 minute YouTube workout can seem overwhelming when your to-do list is as long as your arm. Instead, could you fit in a few heel raises whilst waiting for the kettle to boil? Or perhaps a few squats each time you get up from the sofa? Remember small, consistent changes all add up!
2. Create a welcoming workout space
Setting up a dedicated spot at home for exercise can make all the difference to your motivation. It doesn’t have to be fancy – an area with enough room to fit your mat is plenty. Keep your essentials, like your Pilates mat and grippy socks, laid out so they’re accessible and ready to be used whenever you find 5 minutes. Having a mat that’s supportive and non-slip can transform the feel of your session, while cosy, grippy socks ensure you stay warm and steady. When your space feels inviting, you’re much more likely to get on your mat and get moving, even on those chilly winter mornings!
3. Focus on joy, not perfection
Remember why you started moving in the first place – whether it’s to feel energised, reduce stress, or simply have a moment of “me time.” This should be the focus of your motivation! Exercise doesn’t have to look the same every day or follow a strict plan. Some days, it might be a full workout; other days, it might just be a few stretches to unwind. By focusing on the small joys of movement rather than rigid goals, you’ll find it easier to keep going, even when life gets busy.
4. Think ahead to the New Year
Consistency means no need for a January reset! It’s easy to let exercise slide during the festive season, but keeping it up, even in small doses, will help you stay energised and strong into the New Year. By starting now, you’ll already be ahead of the game, with less to ‘catch up’ on come January and your motivation won’t be short-lived liked so many other people!
5. Invest in your motivation
